Instructions for Competition Operations and Rules
Sport Association Presidents and Event Chairs are asked to conduct competitions in accordance with the sport-specific rules outlined in the participant handbook. If competitions are operated with unauthorized rule changes, replayed matches may be required.
Guidelines for 5-on-5 Unified Soccer and 3-on-3 Unified Basketball
Participants may not register individually for Unified Soccer or 3-on-3 Unified Basketball. Instead, each regional chapter president must submit team rosters. (The number of teams and player rosters must be submitted by the end of May.)
Athletes who choose basketball may not participate in soccer, and participants (both athletes with disabilities and unified partners) may not compete in both sports simultaneously.
In addition, Unified Soccer and 3-on-3 Unified Basketball are exempt from the maximum participation limits of five events for athletes with disabilities and two Unified events for non-disabled participants.
The basketball and soccer finals will be held on Saturday, June 6, at the New Song Church Gymnasium prior to the closing ceremony.
• 3-on-3 Unified Basketball (2 athletes with disabilities, 1 unified partner):
The previously selected Atlanta team may enter up to three teams, while all other regional chapters may enter one team only. Each team may consist of up to five members.
• 5-on-5 Unified Soccer (3 athletes with disabilities, 2 unified partners):
Each regional chapter may enter one team only. Each team may consist of up to 10 participants, including athletes with disabilities and unified partners.
Changes to Bowling Competition Operations and Rules
• Singles Event: All participants will bowl three games, and rankings will be determined based on the total combined score.
• Two-Person Disability Team Event: The previous format in which players alternated shots frame by frame has been discontinued. Without an additional competition, rankings will instead be determined using the combined scores of two athletes with disabilities from the Singles Event results.
• Unified Doubles Event: The Unified event will continue under the existing format. A participant with a disability and a unified partner will alternate shots within each frame on the same lane to complete all 10 frames using the Alternate Shot format. Rankings will be determined based on the combined total score of two games.
